Mirko Filipovic will face off against Patrick Barry in a heavyweight bout on Saturday at UFC 115 in Vancouver. These two fighters will match up with high expectations.

Martial arts are becoming all the rage throughout the world. Depending on which part of the world you are in, you will come across all different kinds of fighting styles. One unique fighting method is that of Arnis Stick Fighting. This fighting style comes from the World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF), and originates from Cebu, Philippines. The Federation was started in 1989 and was originally meant to help get the word out about Filipino martial arts.
Arnis Stick Fighting, or Eskrima, was originally created by a Grandmaster named Dionsio Canete. He, among others, created rules for this fighting style to help create some organization. Basically, they follow the 10 point “Must System” that is also used in the sport of boxing. All fighters are required to wear padded protectors for their heads and bodies, and also some guards for their arms and hands.
The weapon of choice is the ratten stick that is 28 inches and weighs around 200 grams. The target areas is above the knees, with all attacks having to involve the sticks (except for thrusting). There is no punching, kicking, throws, elbows, or knees allowed in the sport.

Due to a shoulder injury, Griffin announced that he had to abruptly pull out of the fight. Lyoto Carvalho Machida was born May 30, 1978. He is a Japanese Brazilian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter from Salvador, Brazil and is the current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and a favorite fighter in all UFC lines. Lyoto Machida is 6ft 1 inch with a 74 inch reach and is known as “The Dragon”.
He earned his black belt at the age of 13. He also started training the art of Sumo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at age fifteen, at the age of twelve. He won the 2001 Pan American Karate Tournament and other amateur karate tournaments
Brazilian Sumo Championships, Machida was the runner up in 2000. Machida made his MMA debut, in Inoki’s New Japan Pro Wrestling. In The Ultimate Fighter 1, He then fought runner-up Stephan Bonner.
